Audition Application FAQ’s
*What voice types are you auditioning?
We hold yearly auditions for countertenors, tenors, baritones, and basses. If you identify yourself as one of these voice types, feel free to apply.
*Do you currently have any openings?
We hold auditions regardless of whether or not we have openings. Although we try to know what our staffing needs will be for the following season as early as possible, with few exceptions, we rarely know if there is a vacancy at the time of live auditions. However, we have found ourselves in need of filling a position well after auditions have taken place.
*I am not a United States citizen. Can I still apply?
Chanticleer requires that all members of the ensemble be legal to work in the United States; if you have a valid visa allowing you to work in the United States, feel free to apply.
*I’ve auditioned in the recent few years. Do I need to reapply?
Yes! Even if you’ve auditioned for us in the past, we want to know what you sound like now!
*I haven’t yet received my bachelors degree. Can I still apply?
Absolutely. Chanticleer has no education requirements.
*Is there an age restriction?
Applicants must be 18 years of age.
*I can’t upload the videos that I want to share. What should I do?
Send them directly to our Assistant Music Director at auditions@chanticleer.org
*When will I be notified if I am invited for a live audition?
Regardless of whether applying via regional audition or digital pre-screening, all finalists advancing to the live audition weekend in San Francisco will be notified by January 19th, 2024.
*Will Chanticleer provide feedback from my audition materials?
Chanticleer typically does not offer feedback from either audition submission materials or from live auditions.
*If I am invited to San Francisco for a live audition, am I responsible for the cost of travel and accommodations?
Finalists will receive a $500 travel stipend to help cover the expenses of travel and accommodations.
*If I am asked to join Chanticleer, do I have to move to San Francisco?
Yes. Since Chanticleer rehearses in San Francisco and performs extensively in the Bay Area, singers are expected to live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
*If offered a contract, will Chanticleer help with moving expenses or securing accommodations?
Unfortunately no. If offered a contract, it is the singer’s responsibility to relocate to San Francisco and make their own living arrangements.
*What is the starting salary?
Current starting salaries are mid-60K with benefits.
